Terms of Service

Last updated: 1 September 2026 · Version 2026-09-01

Welcome to Halalknot. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Halalknot website, platform, and related services (collectively, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.

1. About Us

HalalKnot is a matrimonial platform operated by Umair Javaid, an individual sole trader established in Ireland and trading as HalalKnot ("HalalKnot", "we", "us", or "our"). CRO registration of the HalalKnot business name is pending. HalalKnot is not an incorporated or limited company. Our Service is designed to help users connect for the purpose of marriage in a respectful, privacy-focused environment.

2. Eligibility

You may only use the Service if:

  • You are at least 18 years old;
  • You have the legal capacity to enter into a binding contract;
  • You are using the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes;
  • All information you provide is accurate, complete, and truthful.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that do not meet these requirements.

2.1 Age Misrepresentation

You confirm that the date of birth you provide is true and accurate. If you misrepresent your age, or permit anyone under 18 to use your account, you do so in breach of these Terms and accept full responsibility for that misrepresentation and its consequences.

We will terminate any account we believe belongs to a person under 18, without notice and without refund of any amount paid, and may report the matter to the relevant authorities.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Halalknot accepts no liability for any loss, harm, or claim arising from a user's misrepresentation of their age, and you agree to indemnify us against any such claim. Nothing in this clause limits any right you have under applicable consumer protection law.

3. Account Registration

To use the Service, you must create an account. When registering, you agree that:

  • You will create only one account;
  • You will provide accurate personal information;
  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials;
  • You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

We may require additional verification (such as email confirmation, phone, or photo checks) to prevent fraud and misuse. See our Verification page for current requirements.

4. Profile Information & Photos

  • Users may upload one profile photo only.
  • Profile photo visibility is controlled by the user (show or blur).
  • Profile photos are visible only to other registered users.
  • You confirm that any photo uploaded is of you and does not infringe the rights of any third party.
  • We reserve the right to remove or restrict any photo that violates these Terms.

5. Verification

Email verification is required to use the Service. Additional verification (phone, photo/selfie, or identity document checks) may be introduced over time and may be optional or required depending on the feature.

If third-party verification is used, Halalknot receives verification results for fraud prevention and does not use verification data for unrelated commercial purposes.

Accounts that fail verification or are suspected of impersonation may be flagged, suspended, or terminated.

6. How the Service Works

  • Users may send and receive marriage proposals.
  • Direct messaging is not permitted on the platform.
  • If a proposal is accepted, both users' login email addresses become visible on the Connected tab.
  • If you add an optional WhatsApp number to your profile, it may be shown to users with whom you have an accepted connection.
  • Halalknot does not guarantee matches, responses, or successful outcomes.

7. Cost

HalalKnot is currently free to use — creating a profile, browsing, and sending proposals are free. We are introducing an optional paid Premium plan (a one-time payment of $6 for 3 months of access, with no auto-renewal). Premium is optional: you are only charged if you choose to buy it, and no payment information is collected unless you do. There are no automatic subscriptions. Any purchase is handled by a third-party payment provider, and its use is subject to this agreement and our Refund Policy.

8. User Content Licence

You retain ownership of any content you upload. However, by using the Service, you grant Halalknot a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, display, modify, and optimise your content solely for the purpose of operating and improving the Service.

This licence ends when your content is deleted or your account is permanently removed, subject to legal retention requirements.

9. Community Standards & Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Impersonate another person;
  • Upload misleading or false information;
  • Use the Service for harassment, abuse, or unlawful purposes;
  • Attempt to bypass verification or security features;
  • Scrape, reverse engineer, or misuse the platform.

Enforcement

If you breach these Terms:

  • We may issue a warning;
  • Repeated or serious breaches may result in account suspension or termination.

10. Account Termination & Deletion

  • You may delete your account at any time through your dashboard.
  • Upon deletion, your profile will no longer be visible.
  • Certain data may be retained or anonymised in accordance with our Privacy Policy and legal obligations.
  • We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms or pose a risk to other users or the platform. We will normally give the action category and a concise reason, subject to safety, confidentiality and legal restrictions. You may appeal under our Enforcement & Appeals process.

11. Intellectual Property

All intellectual property rights in the Service, including software, branding, and design, belong to Halalknot or its licensors. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or exploit any part of the Service without prior written consent.

12. Interactions Between Users

Halalknot is a platform that helps members find and connect with one another. We are not a party to, and are not responsible for, any interaction, communication, arrangement, meeting, or relationship between members — whether it takes place on the Service or off it (for example by WhatsApp, email, phone, or in person).

  • We do not carry out criminal-background or identity checks and do not guarantee any member's identity, intentions, character, marital status, or the accuracy of anything they tell you. You interact with other members at your own risk and should use your own judgement.
  • Do not send money to other members. Legitimate HalalKnot charges, if introduced, will appear only through our official checkout and will be described before payment. Do not send money, bank or card details, or gifts to anyone you meet through the Service. A request for money is a common sign of a scam. We are not responsible for financial dealings between members.
  • Take your time, involve your family, and only ever meet in a safe, public place. See our Safety and Community Guidelines pages before connecting with anyone.
  • Please report suspicious or inappropriate behaviour using the in-app report tools. We may warn, suspend, or remove accounts, but we cannot guarantee that we can prevent all misconduct.

13. Disclaimers

The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not guarantee:

  • That you will find a match;
  • That other users are truthful or compatible;
  • Continuous or error-free operation of the Service.

14. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Halalknot shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential losses arising from your use of the Service.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be excluded under Irish or EU law.

15. Indemnification

To the maximum extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Halalknot, its operator and affiliates from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and reasonable expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or connected with:

  • your use of the Service;
  • your conduct, communications, or dealings with other members, whether on or off the platform;
  • any misrepresentation of your age or identity;
  • your breach of these Terms; or
  • your violation of any law or the rights of any third party.

Nothing in this section requires you to indemnify us for liability arising from our own negligence or wilful misconduct, or for any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under Irish or EU law.

16. Privacy & Data Protection

Your use of the Service is subject to our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect and process personal data in accordance with GDPR.

17. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via the Service. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.

18. Assignment & Business Transfers

We may assign or transfer these Terms and our rights and obligations under them — including as part of a merger, acquisition, reorganisation, or sale of all or substantially all of our assets. In that event, your information may be transferred to the successor entity as described in our Privacy Policy, and these Terms will continue to apply until amended.

This is separate from selling personal data to advertisers or data brokers, which we do not do (see our Privacy Policy, §7). Where a transfer of the business would materially change how your data is used, we will notify affected users beforehand and, where required by law, seek fresh consent.

19. Complaints & How to Raise a Concern

If you have a complaint or concern about the Service or about another member, please contact us first at connect.hk@outlook.com before taking any formal or legal action. We take concerns seriously and aim to acknowledge your message within 5 business days and to resolve it as quickly as is reasonably possible.

Raising the matter with us first usually resolves it faster. This does not affect your statutory rights, your right to lodge a complaint with the Irish Data Protection Commission on data-protection matters, or your right to pursue legal remedies.

20. Governing Law & Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of Ireland. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Irish courts.
